EACH spring, Horningsham firm Wessex Rural Crafts ecology and arboriculture, which is celebrating 21 years in business this year, offset their carbon footprint by donating and planting trees for local community groups.

This year planting was at Larkrise Community Farm on the outskirts of Trowbridge.

Directors Rick and Katy Gunning were joined by their team of trained tree surgeons to plant trees around the apiary.

The bees at Larkrise now have a beautiful crab apple to pollinate as well as a thicker boundary hedge with standard hawthorn trees.

Ashley Wicks, head of horticulture at Larkrise Community Farm, said “The bees are going to love these new trees, as they are just beginning to get active after their winter break.”

Rick, who is a trained ecologist and environmental scientist, said: “WRC are happy to help and support projects that educate people about the benefits that trees have on communities and the environment."

Katy commented “We look forward to working with other community projects too. Anyone interested can contact us through our website, www.wrctreesurgery.co.uk"
