TRADITIONAL maypole dancing will take centre stage at this year’s Christ Church Primary’s annual May fair in Bradford on Avon, and pupils have been running in circles for weeks practicing for the event.

The Bank Holiday Monday fair, which is now in its 37th year, has become a firm favourite with locals, and organisers hope that the new addition of maypole dancing will encourage others to get involved on the day.

Jo Moyser, chair of the PTA and May fair co-ordinator, said: “We are hoping to raise £8,000 to support the school’s IT curriculum. In the last two years we have raised £15,000.

“We wanted to return to a May fair that is more traditional and we thought maypole dancing would be nice with all the other things going on during the day.”

The afternoon also includes a talent show, live music, a wellie throwing competition as well as professional Morris dancers.

The money raised at the event will go towards a variety of learning resources including computers, sports equipment, children’s newspapers and special software for children with dyslexia.

The fair starts at midday on Monday and entry is £1.
