Bath based Mowbray Woodwards Solicitors closed its office last Thursday for a day of community service at a local National Trust property.

More than 40 employees volunteered their services to Great Chalfield Manor near Melksham, a charming 15th century manor house, to provide support on their garden and local woodland projects.

As the National Trust is a UK charity that protects historic places and green spaces, properties like Great Chalfield Manor is completely reliant on visitors and members to keep their conservation work going.

The manor is set in beautiful countryside and boasts romantic gardens with wildlife woodlands surrounding the property. With help from Ming the resident terrier, staff worked in the gardens planting over 200 plants and bulbs ready for the summer months. Other groups worked hard in the new woodlands to set tree shelters upright after the winter gales and in ancient woodland to ensure hazel coppice stools were protected from the roe deer. Great Chalfield’s historic Norman bastion benefited from a big clear up of ivy and brambles to make it visible to visitors once more.

Great Chalfield tenants Robert and Patsy Floyd commented: “We had a great day out in the gardens and the woods both old and new, the Mowbray Woodwards staff gave a big boost to our constant work of planting, conservation & maintenance.†Tracey Smith, Managing Partner of Mowbray Woodwards added “We were delighted to be part of the day which provided a unique opportunity for our staff to make a genuine difference in the community where they live and work.†As well as bringing positive change to Great Chalfield Manor, Mowbray Woodwards saw the day as an ideal opportunity to forge closer working relationships between teams. Mowbray Woodwards boasts excellent employee retention with over a quarter of staff providing over 15 years of service.

The staff at Mowbray Woodwards are looking forward to a similar challenge in 2016!
