CAMERON Antal’s memories of his late father are dominated by the time they spent together building two bicycles.

Now they, like his father, have been cruelly taken from him.

Just days after the seventh anniversary of Chris Antal’s death, Cameron discovered his bikes, worth more than £2,000 between them, had been stolen from his family garage in York Road.

Cameron's mother Louise Morecombe said: “It’s all the happy memories of Chris before he died. All those memories are gone now.

"They were the last thing he had of his dad.

"He can’t think about someone riding them around the street. It’s like they’re riding around on his memories.”

Cameron said: “I spent lots of time on these bikes and received them both from my dad,” said Cameron.

“When I went to the garage on Saturday I have never been so angry in all my life.

“It wasn’t that kind of angry that I wanted to lash out, it was more of a breakdown.

“I’m angry because of what’s been taken, because it’s such a big memory.”

Chris died at 28 after a three-year battle with throat cancer.

He had taught his son, now 14, everything he knew about building and modifying bicycles.

“They would sit in the back garden for hours and hours, said Louise, 32. “He would teach Cameron how to re-spray the bike parts. It’s all they ever did together."

“When his dad died he made it his mission to save money wherever he could. He would try selling his things or washing cars.”

Cameron, a Churchfields Academy pupil, even spent a £100 voucher he received through the Adver’s Christmas Wish appeal on parts for his prized possessions.

The BMX had a blue frame, white handlebars and white forks, while the stunt bike taken had a white frame.

What has bemused The family are bemused that expensive power tools and £500 chainsaw were ignored in the burglary.

Wiltshire Police are investigating the incident, which occurred between 10.30pm on Friday (MAY 8) night and 8.30am on Saturday(MAY 9) morning.

“I just want them back. It’s almost a gutting feeling,” said Cameron, who had spent Saturday (MAY 9) morning hopefully searching the streets for them.

“All I want, even if it’s just the parts I bought, the bikes back, even if they’re in bits,” he said.”I don’t know what I have done to make them want to steal from me.”

Louise said: “Cameron’s just a bike person. He doesn’t have friends or go out much. He just had his bikes. He’s never been one to walk the streets.

“It was all about the bikes for Cameron. I’ve not seen my son like this since his dad died.”

Louise has set up a fundraising page to buy Cameron a new bike, should his treasured possessions not be found. Visit www.gofundme.com/u48g7q4v.
