RAISING more than £70 was the icing on the cake for Devizes schoolgirl Olivia Henty who held a charity bake sale at her school.

Along with help from family, the nine-year-old, of Teasel Close, made more than 200 cakes to sell to classmates and teachers at Nursteed Community School during break time, raising £75.

The sale was to raise money for Diabetes UK as her mum Karina has the condition, which also affects other family members.

Mrs Henty said: “I’m really proud of Olivia for organising this. Diabetes is a disease which affects her family and so she believes it is a really good cause to raise money for.

“Me, Olivia and her nan made over 200 cupcakes and tray bakes, I’m glad it went well, now we just have to deal with the mess in our kitchen.”

This is not the first time Olivia has raised money for the charity as a sponsored swim last year collected £50.

Mrs Henty said: “She did want to double the money raised from the swim but the fact that she raised £75 is great.”

The younger fundraiser said she has plans to do more fundraising but has not decided what to do next.

Joy Jones, Diabetes UK area fundraising manager, said: “I want to say a bit thank you Olivia for organising a brilliant bake sale for the charity, we are so proud of her.

“The money she has raised will go to help Diabetes UK care for, connect with and campaign on behalf of the 3.8 million people in the UK with the condition.”
