THREE groups of women from Devizes took on the Moonwalk challenge and between them have raised more than £2,000 for the fight against breast cancer.

Among those striding out throughout the night across London were the Sexy Striders made up of Julie Bramwell, Tina Hale, Angela Ellis and Sandra Foster.

They completed the 26.2 mile walk in their bras in under seven hours. Mrs Bramwell, 49, of Queens Road, Devizes, said: "We had a great time. The support was fantastic all through the night."

They joined up at the start of the walk with another group of four nicknamed the Nutty Lot made up of Tania Earley, Tanya Harris, Elaine Wrobel and Kate Pawlak.

The eight women and their supporters enjoyed a post walk breakfast back in Devizes on the Sunday morning at Brogans to celebrate finishing the walk and to mark Mrs Hale's 53rd birthday on the same day.

Another Devizes pair Sarah Dicker, 30, and Caroline Brailey, 43, managed to complete the walk in just under eight and a half hours.

Mrs Dicker said: "We met while working at Wiltshire Council and have formed a very close friendship through months of training.

"The night itself was an incredible experience with some lows as well as highs. Caroline had some breathing issues at mile four and I suffered back ache, sickness and dehydration at mile 12.

"But we overcame our problems and finished with a smile. Between us we have raised just over £450."

The fundraiser, which has the slogan Walk The Walk For Breast Cancer, started at Clapham Common at midnight on May 16.

There was a carnival atmosphere on the common before the start with all the women decorating their bras to match the theme Saturday Night At The Movies.

The event raised a total of more than £6 million for breast cancer charities as thousands of women took to the streets for the full marathon or half marathon distances.
