YOUNG people from across south Wiltshire had their moment in the spotlight on Monday when they celebrated their hard work with an awards ceremony.
The evening for about 60 young people from Downton, Wilton, Mere and Tisbury was held at the Wiltshire County Council-run Tisbury Youth Development Centre.
As well as a dance performance, food and an opportunity to use the mixing decks, the children received their award certificates from the council's director of children and education, Carolyn Godfrey, and assistant director, Richard Parker, for a range of achievements including Young Sports Leadership Awards and Millennium Volunteers.
The council's youth development team also took the opportunity to unveil its new mobile youth centre.
The large converted van, which includes a plasma screen television with a built-in DVD and audio system, will be officially named by local young people in a future competition. The vehicle was paid for after one young person applied for £42,000 from the Wiltshire Young People's Opportunities Fund, and young people from Alderbury decided on the colour scheme and what should go in it.
There is space for laptop computers, which will be fitted soon, and a large seating area, as well as wheelchair access and a spotlight attached to the side of the vehicle to allow safe night time working. There will also be lots of sports and arts equipment on board.
It will be used by Alderbury along with Downton, Redlynch, Laverstock, South Newton and Winterbourne Stoke, with more sites being considered in south Wiltshire.
