THE Swindon mountain biking community has come together to help a youngster replace his bike which was stolen last month.

Cameron Antal, 14, was left heartbroken after two bikes he helped to build with his late-father was taken from the family’s garage in York Road.

Despite an appeal the bike has not been found but member of MB Swindon, a mountain biking group, who knew Cameron’s father Chris decided to step in.

Bringing together other members of the group, along with local businesses, parts were collected to make a top-quality bike and on Saturday morning they helped Cameron build a brand-new bike.

The new bike was put together on Saturday morning at the Hub in the town centre with Cameron

John Paine, a member of MB Swindon, said: “A member of our Group John Dixon knew Cameron’s dad before he died so wanted to do something.

“It was firstly to do something nice for Cameron but also if there is one thing all cyclists hate, it is bike thieves. We want to show Cameron that there are some good people out there.

“It’s good to see local businesses and cyclist coming together. Mitchell Cycles and the Hub have donated parts and time. They could have sold these parts but instead they donated them and it is a real quality bike.”

Cameron said: "It was actually amazing. It was a really good experience for me, to be honest. It was really helpful to see the way a bike is built differently by some professionals.

"They had loads of different bits of advice for me, but they had a lot more equipment too. There were luxuries like using stands when you strip the bike down.

"Hanging out with the guys at @The Hub was a great experience for me. There was just such a modern feel about the place, it was really professional.

"I learned a lot more about gearing I hadn't known about before, which will help me in the future, I think.

"There was a lot of attention from the people there, which was nice, but also there were a lot of people dropping by, different cyclists.

"The bike itself has been so smooth since I brought it home. It's been riding great and you can feel the quality of all the little bits on it."

Wiltshire Police are investigating the incident of the stolen bikes still, which occurred between 10.30pm on Friday, May 8 and 8.30am the following (MAY 9) morning.
