TWO men have been arrested following a police pursuit through Penhill and Abbey Meads yesterday evening.

Patrol officers suspected a blue Fiat Punto had been stolen and attempted to pull it over.

When the driver pulled away police gave chase.

After a short pursuit, the Punto collided with a Vauxhall Astra, and the occupants fled.

The men, aged 19 and 20, from the Swindon area, have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and remain in police custody.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “Two Swindon men have been arrested following a car chase yesterday evening in the North Swindon area.

“Officers in a patrol car tried to pull over a blue Fiat Punto driving in the Penhill area when it made off. The officers then pursued the vehicle before it collided with a Vauxhall Astra in the Abbey Meads area of the town. This happened around 6.30pm.

“The occupants ran off - our officers gave chase and caught and arrested two men on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking. They are aged 19 and 20, from Swindon, and are still in custody.

“The police helicopter was also used.”
