'Not just a story, but our story, the story that we call the history of the world. Shall we begin?'

E. H. Gombrich

Meet colourful historical figures, visit the great battlefields and marvel at fabulous works of art and ground-breaking scientific discoveries in this brand new Watermill Theatre touring production, A Little History of the World, by Toby Hulse.

Based on the international bestseller by Ernst Gombrich, this world premiere adaptation tells the true story of how Gombrich was invited to write a history of the world for younger readers in just six weeks.

From Ancient Egyptians and chivalrous Knights to the Age of Revolution, Ernst, with the help of Ilse and Walter, take the audience on an engaging, whistle-stop tour through the centuries, leading them with infectious enthusiasm through the fascinating, inspiring story of our world from the Big Bang to the First World War.

A Little History of the World comes to Broad Hinton prior to a two week run at The Watermill Theatre. It’s the first co-production between The Watermill Theatre and Reading Rep, Reading’s resident professional theatre company. Direction is by Paul Stacy and design by Victoria Spearing.
