A PARK North man is appealing for the owner of a dog which allegedly bit his nine-month old Irish water spaniel to come forward.

Dean Allen had been walking his puppy, Honey, in the area last Saturday when she got in an altercation with another dog, a black and brown breed.

The 46-year-old said he had got the dog recently because his parents had the same breed when he was growing up and he said the attack was devastating.

“I was walking Honey on the lead at 8pm over the field behind my house,” he said.

“There were two women out in the field on a park bench and I looked round and there was another woman on the far side with her dog.

“The woman was throwing a stick back and forward to the dog, so I kept Honey on her lead, when all of a sudden this dog came over.

“I thought it was just coming over to sniff my dog, but it went around her twice before latching on to Honey’s neck.

“She was yelping so much, and she managed to wriggle herself free from her own collar and ran all the way home on her own.”

Dean lost his grip on Honey, and was forced to chase her back to his house, without stopping to speak to the owner of the other dog.

“I kept shouting at the woman to get her dog off, but all she was doing was tapping it on the backside,”

he said.

“I just want to get this sorted out in a civil way, because I have now been left with vet bills for something that was out of my control.

“I have had to take her to Drove Vets and the bills have cost £167, because she has cuts all along her neck.

“She got three puncture wounds around her neck.

“I usually take my dog round there for a walk but I had never seen this woman or that dog before.”
