HOLT-based Box Steam Brewery held its inaugural BoxFest over the weekend much to the delight of thousands of well-wishers who attended the event that celebrated eats, beats and beer.

Nearly 2,000 people descended on Ham Green and The Midlands in the village on Saturday to watch nine local live bands join 12 Wiltshire food producers to offer visitors a feast of entertainment – all of which was for free.

Dom Lane, one of the organisers at the Box Steam Brewery, said the day was glorious and a success and added he was glad that the sunny weather encouraged more people to attend.

He added: “There was such a relaxed atmosphere and there was something for everyone throughout the day. The music was lovely and varied and there were so many great local producers and great beer and well great company.

“It was the first time we ran BoxFest and I think we were really delighted on the quality of the performances as many had never performed live before. We were amazed by the quality of the produce as well and I think it just showed how friendly our neighbours are.”

There was also a special guest visit by Trowbridge-based British Middleweight Champion Nick Blackwell who has been a long-term supporter of the brewery after the Roberts family, owners of Box Steam, have sponsored him since the beginning of his career.

Box Steam Brewery has been producing a range of “beautifully engineered” cask and bottled beers for over 10 years.

Andy Roberts, managing director of the family-owned brewery, said: “We moved to Holt in 2011 when we outgrew our buildings at Box.

"We’ve enjoyed a happy four years here and it’s great to be able to celebrate our continued success with our friends and neighbours.”

Businesses which aimed to impress with their culinary delights included Bradford on Avon-based pie makers Eat Square, In a Pickle, Beth’s Bakes and organic fruit and vegetable producer Bodice of Holt.

There was also a performance by the Semington Choir which included members from the West Wilts School of Performing Arts.

Mr Lane added that in addition to the live music throughout the day, the team also welcomed people into the brewery to see how every bottle is made.

He said: “We opened the doors to the brewery and people could have a freshly brewed beer and it was just nice for people to see inside the brewery.

“It was great to have the mayor of Trowbridge there and Nick Blackwell because we’ve supported him since much of his early days when he was training.

"The day was a great way to say thank you to everyone who has supported the brewery including the village.”
