A COVINGHAM pub is set to show off the results of its refurbishment this week.

The Messenger pub will re-open on Friday after a month-long closure for an extensive renovation.

An extended bar and new zones to incorporate dining, relaxation and playing games can now be found at the popular pub in Covingham Drive.

A smoking shelter has also been installed outside along with new furniture and upgraded toilets to complement the redesign.

Sport fans are also catered for with HD televisions and a dropdown screen available to coincide with the start of the Rugby World Cup.

Manager Jamie Williams said the refurbishment was about making the pub appealing to all.

“My idea is that this will be a pub for everyone, I had a vision as to how I wanted this pub to look and it will be something that everyone will be able to find their place in,”

he said.

“It will predominately remain a sports pub, but there is a relaxation area that people can visit if they want a more chilled experience.

“It’s for family, friends and people who want to hold coffee mornings here. I can accommodate that and family meals too.”

Jamie added: “We have our customers asking when it will be reopened and they’re really excited to see what it is going to look like, I’m hoping for a good turn out when we open.”

The Messenger will hold a launch night on Friday wheN customers can sample canapé-sized portions of popular menu items and explore the transformed space.

A series of events, including karaoke night, meat raffle and live music is also planned for the coming weeks.
