MUM Kate Wells thought her little girl had come third in her age group in the Devizes Mayor's Baby Show yesterday but instead walked away with the cup for overall winner.

Mrs Wells of Marina Close, Devizes said: "When they called out the winners for her age group I thought they were doing it in reverse order. Even when she was given her gold medal I thought it was bronze. So it is a lovely surprise."

Her baby Amy, 12 months, was the winner of the 12 to 18 months class and came up against 0-6 month winner Megan Sealy, 13 weeks, and Annabella-Rose Mitchell, eight months, who won the 6-12 months class for the final judging.

After a lot of deliberation Devizes Mayor Roger Giraud-Saunders declared Amy the winner. He said: "You have no idea how difficult this has been."

Bratton primary school teacher Amy Sealy of Hopgood Close, Devizes, said of her daughter's class win : "We are delighted. She is a very content and happy baby."

Bonnie Wright of Elm Tree Gardens, Devizes, was equally pleased that her daughter Annabella-Rose had won a gold medal and mini trophy. She said: "I am a very proud mum."
