CHAMPIONS League glory is not the prize on offer but insomniac' Paul Sturrock aims to learn from the mistakes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho as Town pursue their own glittering goal, writes JON RITSON.

In front of a full house the manager has told his players to go for the jugular'.

Sturrock said: "I think I've been shown by Chelsea and Manchester United that if you sit and wait, it'll bite you on the bum.

"I've tried to emphasise to the players that we go for the jugular.

"This game could be very open and very, very hectic with lots of goals.

"Hopefully we'll score more than them.

"I imagine Walsall will be going gung-ho from the first whistle with ourselves open as well.

"And if we lose the first goal then we just roll up our sleeves and work more, play at a high tempo.

"If we do that then I'm confident we'll get the result.

"Our season has now shrunk to one game. This is our season in 90 minutes.

"This should be a cup tie, it should be played like a cup final and I would like to think that whatever energy my 16 players have got, they give me everything."

Sturrock has yet to decide on his squad of 16 but the message is clear to each member of his squad.

The Town boss said: "I want as many selection headaches as possible. I want everyone training 100 per cent and putting real pressure on me to select them.

"I told them at the start of the week that the slate was rubbed clean.

"If people on the periphery wanted to get on the bench and those on the bench wanted to get in the team, this was the week to do it."

And if you have had trouble sleeping ahead of the big game then you are in the same boat as the manager.

Sturrock said: "This is a 24-7 job and a thinking job.

"If you have a blip in your sleep pattern then you switch on straightaway and you lose sleep.

"But in the end I would rather have these kind of weeks than be sleeping like a baby at this minute.

"The essence of football is to be as competitive as you can for as long as possible and we have been that right through to the final game.

"It's obviously a tense week for everybody, we've worked very hard and the players have been very positive in their approach."

On the injury front, Christian Roberts, Lee Peacock, Michael Pook and Ashley Westwood all trained yesterday, giving the manager cause for optimism.

Barry Corr was said to be under individual supervision' and Sturrock simply answered we'll see' when asked whether the Irishman who feature against the Saddlers.
