Pupil power was on show in Calne when two schools joined forces to raise money for charity by passing a rugby ball.

Pupils from St Margaret’s Preparatory School were joined by children from Cherhill Primary to take part in The Power Pass challenge at a time when the country is gripped by rugby World Cup fever.

The initiative was organised by the charitable trust of the Independent Association of Prep Schools on behalf of children’s rugby charity The Wooden Spoon, in a bid to raise £50,000 with 500,000 passes being made by pupils from schools nationwide.

In Calne, a total of 122 children from Years 5 and 6 managed to make 619 passes in their allocated 15 minute slot on Wednesday (September 23) as the St Margaret’s playing field was turned into their own Twickenham.

The 55 pupils from Cherhill and 67 from St Margaret’s were sponsored for their efforts by friends and family; and they are currently collecting sponsor money, waiting with excitement to see what the final total will be! A spokesman for The Wooden Spoon said: ‘This is an amazing fundraising event in this exciting year for rugby.’

St Margaret’s Head of Sport Daniel Dury said: “It was lovely to see so many children from both St Margaret’s and Cherhill having fun taking part in sport, as well as raising money for good causes.’
