THE INAUGURAL Stonar Stampede fun run took place last Saturday, within Stonar School’s grounds in Atworth.

The off-road running event, the school’s first under the Wiltshire Athletic Association, incorporated the Wiltshire Junior Race League, within Stonar’s 80-acre site.

Stonar School headteacher, Dr Sally Divall, was delighted with the school’s introduction into off-road running and is already looking forward to next year’s event.

“I enjoyed it very much and it got a great response from the kids, it was very worthwhile,” she said.

“I was pleased with the turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.”

The event, comprising 2km and 5km distances, was run in association with Avon Valley Runners and all finishers received a medal for taking part.

“It was nice to see families taking part and there was such a range of ages which was great to see,” said Dr Divall.

The inspiration behind the event was partly from making the most of the school’s spacious grounds and the keenness of a number of staff to get involved.

“We were eager to use our lovely grounds and there was a lot of interest for the event and hopefully it will grow even more next year,” said Dr Divall.
