COMMITTEE members of the Kennet Community Transport are thrilled to have received £1,337 from students at St John’s in Marlborough who held a fundraising non-school uniform day.

Roger Hagerty and Roland Lockey from the charity, which has been running for 25 years, visited the school this week to collect their cheque.

“On behalf of the trustees of Kennet Community Transport I would like to thank St John’s School on their amazing fundraising effort in raising the magnificent sum of £1,300 towards the running costs of our minibus,” Mr Hagerty said.

“Our success in offering this service depends on the generosity of the local community supporting us through various fundraising events.”

The charity’s bus transports elderly people door-to-door to the Jubilee Centre in Marlborough High Street, as well as those with learning difficulties to The New Road Centre also in the town and takes residents to nursing homes and on day trips.

They make more than 1,000 journeys a year in the minibus which has been converted to allow for wheelchair access.

Mr Hagerty added: “Our fundraising is organised by our full-time driver Roland Lockey, who together with the support of his wife Helen, work extremely hard coordinating, instigating and running numerous fundraising events throughout the year. We are extremely grateful.”

The committee is also looking for younger people to take a role in running the organisation. For more information email kennetcommunitytransport@yahoo.co.uk or call (01672) 513861
