POLICE followed a vehicle they saw bounce off a kerb in the Purton area and eventually arrested the driver on suspicion of drink-driving having found a half-empty pint glass by his seat.

The vehicle was stopped at Flaxlands, Royal Wootton Bassett, on Saturday and the driver admitted having "a pint earlier".

When officers inspected the car they saw a glass with dregs of alcohol in it and evidence of cannabis use.

A 26-year-old man was arrested after being breathalysed and was taken to Gablecross Police Station, where he was held.

Police say if you suspect anyone could be a regular drink-driver report them on the non emergency 101 number or, if they are driving, call 999.

A Toothill man has been jailed for six weeks after admitting assault, criminal damage, and threatening or abusive behaviour.

Christopher Jones, 33, of Edington Close, had no evidence offered in three further charges of assault, but pleaded guilty to three offences on July 2 and 15 of this year. He was imprisoned due to violent conduct in the presence of children, and made to pay an £80 victim surcharge and criminal courts charge of £150.

Officers from the Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade neighbourhood policing team seized some wraps of cannabis hidden inside some boxer shorts during a drugs warrant in Cricklade on Friday morning.

Police arrested a man at the premises during the raid and a 20-year-old from the area has been bailed until a later date.

Izasha Lanfear, 22, of Linden Avenue, has been given a community order after admitting three counts of theft from Sainsbury's.

The three offences, often totalling over £400 worth of products, were committed between February 24 and March 10 of this year.

Lanfear will also have to pay a victim surcharge of £60.
