WILTSHIRE Police is appealing for witnesses after a woman, driving on her own, was pulled over by a fake police car on New Year’s Eve.

The incident happened between 4.30am and 5am near Salisbury along Down Barn Road, Winterbourne Gunner, when a car following her flashed its lights and then a blue light.

After pulling over the woman was approached by the driver – a well-dressed white man in his 30s, with short dark hair – who informed her that she had no tax or insurance.

He then asked her to sit in the back of his car to give her details but she became suspicious and asked for ID.

At this point the man pushed her and there was a short scuffle, but the woman managed to get back into her car and drive off.

She was then followed by the car – a dark, four-door hatchback – before it was last seen at the junction with the A345 and turning left towards Salisbury.

There was also a passenger in the front of the car – a black, bald man of a similar age to the driver.

Another car passed the two parked cars at the time of the incident and anyone with information should call Wiltshire Police and contact DC Paula Clissold on 101.
