THE chief executive of Prospect Hospice has welcomed the news that the standard of end-of-life care at the Great Western Hospital, which is delivered in partnership with the Wroughton-based charity, has been praised.

The report generated by last year’s inspection of the hospital by care regulatory body the Care Quality Commission (CQC) identified the standard of end-of-life care as being ‘good’ – a result which Prospect Hospice CEO Angela Jordan has accredited to the excellence of the two organisations’ longstanding partnership in the area.

The delivery of end-of-life care at Great Western Hospital sees Prospect Hospice specialist nursing staff, based permanently at the hospital, working with GWH’s medical staff to ensure patients get the level of care they need.

Angela said: “Since 2008 our palliative care team, working with our shared medical consultant, have worked hard to ensure that local people who are approaching the end of their lives are able to access, through our partnership, care that reflects the standards that we are able to offer at Prospect Hospice. In many instances our partnership has enabled patients to be discharged to our in-patient unit in Wroughton, or even their own homes.”
