A DRIVER caused structural damage to kitchenware shop HB Pitts in Silver Street, Trowbridge last Tuesday after they drove into the building before fleeing the scene.

Owner Ann Mason said she had been hoping to trace the driver of the vehicle through the town’s CCTV cameras but they have not been recording after a power surge in November.

Mrs Mason said: “The staff left the store at 5pm on Tuesday and they went back at 6.40pm to open up for a sugarcraft class and around 7pm, they noticed things downstairs had fallen off the shelves.

“It would have been dark and even so, there would have been damage to his or her car.

“We picked everything up off the floor, which was about 15 or more things and then we noticed our displays had moved about three inches forward.

“Everyone has been trying to help. We have gone up to the council to see the CCTV coverage and of course it hasn’t been working.

"It was really annoying to find out because both ends of the street have CCTV cameras that could have picked up the car.”

As the incident happened in a two-hour timeframe, Mrs Mason hopes that commuters may have seen what happened as police enquiries continue.

“It would have been at the time of people going home and finishing work,” she added. “No one has come forward and no one has even got in touch to say it was them who damaged the wall.

“One policeman said he thinks they have gone into the car park and tried to reverse but what they have done is come into the wall at an angle. There’s tyre marks and it looks like someone has got angry and just driven off.

“I’ve got a builder coming to visit this week and check it out to see what to do next.”

HB Pitts, which has been running since 1984, supplies sugarcraft and kitchenware products.
