POLICE, fire crews and the air ambulance were in Ogbourne St Andrew near Marlborough this evening after a serious crash involving a car which collided with a tree.
Wiltshire Police were called just after 4pm to the incident on the A346 near Wet Pits Lane and the road was closed for around six hours.
She was also cut out of her car by fire crews from Marlborough and Swindon using hydraulic cutting equipment.
The road was blocked in both ways and closed by police until just after 10pm tonight while recovery took place.
A police spokesman said earlier this evening: "We received a 999 call just after 4pm to a report of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle which had collided with a tree on the A346. The road is blocked in both directions.
“One woman is reported to be trapped in a vehicle. Fire and ambulance have also been called to the scene.
“The road has been closed between Marlborough and Ogbourne St Andrew. It is likely to remain closed for several hours while the incident is dealt with.”
Because of the traffic gridlock some bus passengers heading towards Chiseldon were left stranded in Marlborough High Street as the drivers were diverting their route to Swindon via Avebury.
Motorists reported longs delays in Marlborough, Rockley, Ramsbury, Axford and Wroughton.
Buses to and from Marlborough towards Swindon were also delayed by hours.
One person posted on Facebook: “Two police cars, two ambulance cars, another ambulance, a fire engine and the air ambulance are at the scene.
“Stand still traffic, which is slowly starting to move. Been sat here for a good 45 minutes, anyone thinking of coming back to Marlborough on the A346, I would advise you to take an alternative route.”
