A GROWING number of heartfelt tributes are being left at the scene where a Trowbridge man died yesterday.

Named locally as James Grieve, the 32-year-old was travelling through Farleigh Hungerford when the accident happened.

The crash occurred shortly before 2pm on the A366 just beyond the Hungerford Arms pub and although paramedics tried to revive him, he later died on the scene.

Mr Grieve, known to many as Grizz, was an avid Bristol City fan and memorabilia in memory of him has been left at the scene including a flag and football shirt.

Bristol City fans will hold a minute's applause at tomorrow's match against Nottingham Forest in memory of Mr Grieve.

It is understood that Mr Grieve, who lives in Trowbridge was leading the campaign to get the Robin back on the team’s football shirts.

One tribute at the scene said: “Dear Grizz, the best friend my boys will ever have. Always part of our family. Love always, Jo and Tim.”

Another read: “Grizz, keep the red flag flying high. Love Dan, Jaime, Gavin.”

On the Bristol City flag, one tribute said: “My friend, my brother. Love you always #cityforever RIP From Doogue & Rich.”

Mourners have also taken to Facebook to pay tribute to Mr Grieve including Matthew McAndrew who posted: “A true football fan if ever I've met one. A top top bloke. Gutted. May you rest in peace mate.”

Mark Reynolds added: “Don't get much of a bigger city fan than Grizz. RIP mate.”

Two fire engines, from Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon respectively, were called to the scene at approximately 2pm along with a heavy rescue unit. Avon and Somerset police were also on the scene with a sniffer dog.

The roads, including the road from the Wingfield Crossroads, the junction with the B3109 near Trowbridge and on the A366 further to the west and the junction with the A36, reopened just after 10pm.
