VOLUNTEERS at the Swindon Repair Cafe are at the ready to stitch, glue and drill to help residents get their much-loved items back in working order.

The cafe will open its doors at Savernake Street Social Hall for the fourth time on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.

Since it began last September, dozens of items have been mended and restored, including musical instruments, a sofa cover, bags, clothes and ornaments, glasses and clocks. Repairers can help with clothes and textiles, laptops, ornaments and bric a brac, but not with electrical appliances or bikes at this event.

The cafe is a collaboration between resident Dave Foster, and Eastcott Community Organisation, the group of volunteers managing Savernake Street Social Hall.

Dave is looking forward to a busy afternoon on Sunday. He said: "The repair café culture is becoming established in Swindon, we need to get away from the old throw-away mentality and we're doing our little bit to help that."

The cafe has also been fortunate to be supported by local musicians who have played live at the event, and this Sunday is no exception. Rose Little, Splat the Rat, and Linda and Martin will be performing throughout the afternoon.

And this Sunday the Repair Cafe will be joined by the Swindon Morsbags team - making fabric bags out of recycled material, with the aim of reducing the use of plastic bags.

There will be cake to share and the opportunity to meet others and share skills.
