WESTBURY strengthened the relationship with its twinned town as the town's Twinning Association and mayor paid a visit to inaugurate a road and meet their French counterparts.

Mayor David Bradshaw, the mayoress and 28 members of Westbury's Twinning Association spent four days in Château-du-Loir, where they witnessed the unveiling of a plaque to officially launch the road 'Rue Westbury', which runs through the town.

Cllr Bradshaw said: "It was a great event and everyone involved had a brilliant time.

"I think it will do a world of good for the twinning group and will encourage more people to get involved with it.

"I'm fairly certain it's the firs time a mayor has visited Château-du-Loir since the group was inaugurated."

The two towns have been twinned for 16 years, and chairman of the Westbury group Jean Dew thinks the visit will only enhance their relationship.

She said: "It re-established the relationship between us and everyone really enjoyed the four days over there.

"It is a lovely town and they are a lovely group of people who made us feel incredibly welcome when we were over there.

"The twinning group in Château-du-Loir have changed their attitude to twinning and we're looking forward to meeting them again.

"We are always looking for new members to join the group and think it is an exciting time to join.
