A MELKSHAM councillor is giving up one of her favourite hobbies by pledging not to watch television for a whole month to raise money for the neonatal intensive-care unit at the Bath RUH.
Having started the mammoth feat on Sunday (May 1), town councillor Hayley Spencer, who has only ever gone one day without TV, says she is as of yet coping with the pressure.
The TV fanatic decided to raise the money after her own daughter, Robyn Illman, had to spend a week in the unit following respiratory problems at birth.
Cllr Spencer said: “Those who know me, know that this is pretty big. My life revolves around television.
“That being said, despite the light-hearted nature of the fundraiser, there is a very serious message behind it.
“The unit do a great job and without them, we would not have Robyn, and then TV would not matter to me anyway.
“This is about raising money for people that do a great job and who are there when you are at your most vulnerable and need them most."
