A MAN was flown to hospital with chest and stomach injuries after a van and car crash this afternoon.

The male driver of a white Citroen van was taken by Wiltshire Air Ambulance to Southmead Hospital, Bristol after a collision with a Ford Mondeo just before 2pm.

The collision occurred between B4508 (Sevenhampton) and A420 (Shrivenham) with the male driver of the van said to be in serious condition.

Road closures were in place along the B4000 Highworth - Shrivenham Road junction and Wiltshire Police are currently in attendance.

Wiltshire Police attended the scene with their serious collision investigation unit to clear the scene.

Two rapid response vehicles, an officer and an ambulance from South Western Ambulance Service Trust attended the scene to treat the two patients, believed to be the two drivers of the vehicles.

Severe tailbacks was reported along the B4000 and up to the A420 roundabout.

The crash is the second time in a week a serious collision has occurred on the A420.

On Sunday night, a Swindon couple and three-year-old child were seriously injured in a head-on crash in which four people died on the A420.

Emergency services responded to a report of a two-car collision between a black Mercedes and a blue Citroen Saxo between the Shrivenham-Highworth over-bridge and Highworth junction at about 11.15pm.

The Saxo was travelling towards Oxford and the Mercedes was going in opposite direction when the two vehicles collided head on.

All four occupants of the Saxo died at the scene.

The three occupants of the Mercedes, the male driver, a female passenger in her 30s and a toddler were all taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where they are being treated for their injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
