HAVING previously been told to make improvements by OFSTED, Lacock Primary School has turned it around to score a Good on its latest inspection.
Head teacher Richard Hearn puts the upgrade down to hard work over the past two years as well as a community spirit as the staff clubbed together to improve the school.
A report back in 2014 graded the primary as requiring improvements in three of the four key teaching areas but after a recent inspection the school was rated
Good across the board by lead inspector Ken Buxton.
Mr Hearn said: “It took lots of hard work and reflection on what we were doing and offering as a school.
“It is difficult to say in a couple of sentences what we have done but we wanted to give staff more incentives and empower them to put forward new ideas and lead.
“We did a lot of work around early reading. It was really a lot of hard work, not a miracle turnaround that happened over night.”
The report read that the head teacher’s leadership style has created a team that is focused on providing high-quality education.
It highlighted how the pupil’s behaviour is good and how there is strong focus on teaching phonics, the link between sounds and letters, which is successfully helping raise the standards of reading in the school.
