FRESH new angles on some of the county’s best loved sights have featured in the latest entries of VisitWiltshire’s photograph competition.

The annual photo competition is staged to highlight the wealth of photographic talent and awe inspiring sights that Wiltshire has to offer. Already there have been submissions from photographers from all corners of the county, each eager to highlight the things they most love about Wiltshire.

John Newbury, who was born in Salisbury, but currently lives in Warminster, has taken to the skies to capture a striking aerial image of the cathedral at the heart of his home city as part of his June submission. Having spent 23-years in the Royal Navy he returned to Wiltshire and has set about spending his children’s inheritance on his childhood love of photography.

Photographers – both professional and aspiring - are able to submit up to five photographs each month right through the summer until the competition closes at the end of September.

Last month saw John capture images of the cathedral at twilight, Avebury, Shearwater and Stourhead. Among his submissions this month is a colourful image of the inside of Lacock Abbey, the Westbury White Horse, and a "soli-tree" off the A4361 between Avebury and Wroughton.

He also found himself on the platform at Salisbury railway station to cpature an image of Mayflower waiting to haul a steam special to Ely.

Pictures have also come in from Jamie Winch from Wilton who was inspired by the bustling market square in Salisbury.

Peter Daltrey from Devizes has also submitted photographs of Stonehenge and the Heel Stone, Stourhead and Avebury Tumuli.

To be in with a chance of winning, the photos should capture the essence of life in Wiltshire, its people and landscape, and tie in with any of VisitWiltshire's four ‘Timeless’ themes. These are:

• Timeless Wonders: including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury Cathedral, the Kennet & Avon Canal and Wiltshire’s White Horses

• Timeless Places: including market towns, villages and other attractions

• Timeless Pleasures: including shopping, food and drink, festivals & events, arts & entertainment

• Timeless Nature: including big skies, rolling hills, flora and fauna

In addition to the first prize of a £300 voucher for the best photograph overall, there will be two runner up prizes of a £50 voucher each.
