WITH the Rio Olympics just weeks away, pupils of Chilton Foliat CE Primary held a summer fair celebrating all things Brazilian.

Hundreds of visitors flooded the school grounds to Samba the day away with the members of staff, pupils and Friends of Chilton Foliat, who spent weeks planning and organising the themed fair. Visitors were treated so a Samba display as well as a carnival parade to wrap up the afternoon, not letting the intermittent rain dampen their spirits.

Denise Weston, head of Chilton Foliat School, said: “It was fantastic despite the weather. We had a really good turnout too, I don’t have exact numbers but it was over 500, not just people to do with the school but people from far and wide. We’ve raised in excess of £2,500.”

As well as taking part in the dance displays, pupils of the school showed off their creative side by displaying a dragon they had been making during the closing procession. Attractions didn't end there for the visitors who were given the opportunity to step into the creature tent.

Mrs Weston said: “The children loved the creature tent, there were spiders and snakes, most of them weren't scared at all. The dragon was great, everyone put a lot of hard work into making it and it really showed. The children also set up a number of stalls such as a tombola stall and a stall where you had to guess how many Lego bricks were in a jar. All of the stalls were thought up and run by the Year 5s and 6s.”

Plans for next year’s fair are already being gathered by the school and The Friends of Chilton Foliat, both of which are very grateful to all that attended the recent event.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who visited and who took part in organising the event. The Friends, the children and the staff worked tirelessly for this fair and it really paid off. I would also like to say thank you to Charlotte Price who choreographed the dancing and Chris Allan who did the drumming,” added Mrs Weston.
