A MAN who raped a male reveller as he made his way home from a night out on the town has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years.

Marawan Nasur stalked his victim as he walked along Fleming Way before dragging him into an alleyway in the dead of night.

And the 25-year-old, of Beatrice Street, Gorse Hill, then forced the terrified victim to carry out a sex act on him as he threatened to hit him with a brick.

Nasur, who appeared at Swindon Crown Court with the assistance of an Arabic interpreter, pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape.

But a jury of eight men and four women didn't believe his claims that the man consented to what took place and convicted him.

They had been told how the victim, who happened to be gay, had gone out in the town centre with a female cousin on Saturday, January 16.

In a video interview the 24-year-old, from the Parks, told police how they had gone to his boyfriend's house before getting a cab in to town.

They first went to the Groves and then on to The Casbah, where they met other friends and family.

He said he was already drunk when he and his cousin went into town and his boyfriend, who stayed at home, told him he had had enough booze.

At about 3.30am the following morning he left the club alone in a very drunk state and in Fleming Way he was aware of a man behind him.

He said: "I was walking near the bus stops and I noticed this black guy was following me so I pretended to be on the mobile to see if I could dodge him away.

"I lost him for a couple of minutes and then I got to the alleyway near to the Esso garage. He grabbed me by my coat and dragged me down that alleyway."

He told how Nasur then unzipped his trousers and told him to perform a sex act on him while he threatened him with a chunk of masonry from a nearby building site.

"He picked up a brick and threatened to hit me with the brick and I just did it," the man told the police.

After carrying out the sex act the terrified man then went with his attacker, who suggested they go back to his place.

But as they walked he said he needed a drink and as Nasur was getting a can of Fanta from the Texaco garage he phoned the police and ran off.

"I just told the police officers to 'hurry up'. I was a bit worried if he could catch up," he said.

"It was like he was trying to target someone and it was me who got targeted. He was so aggressive: he got me and threatened to hit in the face with a brick.

"I just tried to block my face because if he had swung it I would rather he hit my arm than my face."

The jury were told that swabs were taken from the victim's mouth and traces of DNA from the defendant were recovered.

When Nasur was first questioned by the police he refused to answer any questions, but when the case came to court he said that the victim consented.

He claimed that he was approached by the other man who offered to perform a sex act on him, and whatever took place was consensual.
