FOLLOWING days of high profile changes at the top of the Government, we now know the fate of Swindon's two MPs.

Following her arrival in Downing Street on Wednesday, Theresa May has been hard at work reshuffling the lineup of her Cabinet and wider ministerial team.

On Saturday we learned that Robert Buckland has been asked to carry on in the role of Solicitor General by the new Prime Minister.

However, Justin Tomlinson will not be continuing in his position as a Minister in the Department of Work and Pensions.

Mr Buckland, MP for South Swindon since 2010, spoke of his delight as the news emerged.

He tweeted: "Honoured and delighted to have been asked by Prime Minister Theresa May to continue as Her Majesty's Solicitor General.

"Looking forward to the work ahead."

Mr Buckland was appointed to the position in July 2014 - he is the deputy to the Attorney General and acts as an advisor to the Crown departments and the Cabinet on issues of law.

He brought with him many years of experience from his career as a barrister working mainly in criminal law.

Mr Buckland was an early supporter of Theresa May when she announced her candidacy for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

The two have worked closely together over the past year on the Investigatory Powers Bill.

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson was not initially a backer of Mrs May, voting for former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Stephen Crabb, in the first round of the contest.

He did however put his support behind her after Mr Crabb chose to exit the process.

Mr Tomlinson, who was elected as MP for North Swindon in 2010, learned this weekend that he will be leaving the government as a result of the reshuffle.

He was appointed as Minister for Disabled People by David Cameron in May last year and has spoken of how much he enjoyed the role.

Earlier on Saturday, Mr Tomlinson tweeted: "Very proud to have championed disabled people.

"Real focus on fulfilling opportunity, potential and 365,000 more disabled people in work."

He later added: "Visits, meetings, debates, speeches and most of all the amazing, inspirational people I have met.

"Loved every minute!"

Both MPs will continue to serve their constituents as MPs for North and South Swindon.
