NORTH Bradley’s Peace Memorial Trust recreation ground has been recognised as one of the best green spaces in the UK after being awarded the Green Flag Award.

The recreation park is among a record-breaking 1,686 parks and green spaces that received the award on Friday.

To mark the occasion, the trust, which has achieved the community green pennant for the last 10 years, held its annual fete and dog show earlier this month, raising almost £1,800 for site improvements.

Vice chairman of the trust, John Denby-Gardner, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for tenth time from Keep Britain Tidy. This award recognises and highlights that people in North Bradley are benefiting from a green space of the highest quality.

“We are looking forward to lots of youngsters visiting our site over the summer holidays for the Fun in the Sun scheme that we host and for our Back to School sports and fun day on August 27.

“We will have a wonderful open air theatre production with the returning Pantaloon theatre company performing a potted and humorous Canterbury Tales on September 4 when we can officially raise our pennant.”

The award, now celebrating its 20th year, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country and the green pennant shows the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards. is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd added: “All the flags flying this year are a testament to the efforts of the thousands of men and women both staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”

The Green Flag Awards Scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy and North Bradley has been celebrating ‘Love Parks Week’ with their Fun in the Sun project all this week.
