A MELKSHAM retail store has walked away with a volunteering award at the inaugural NSPCC Childhood Champion Awards.

Furniture, bathrooms, kitchens and home accessories store Leekes, Beanacre Road, was awarded the Regional Corporate Partner Volunteer of the Year for their fundraising efforts that have raised more than £150,000 towards child service provision in Wales over the years.

Owners Matthew and Kirsty Leeke proudly receiving the accolade on behalf of the Leeke family from Royal Patron of ChildLine and NSPCC President, HRH the Countess of Wessex.

"It is a privilege to have been recognised at the first Childhood Champions Awards," said Mrs Leekes.

"We are committed to supporting the NSPCC and since they became the company’s nominated charity we have raised over £150k towards maintaining service provision for children in Wales by completing a variety of challenges and fundraising activities.”

All the nominees were recommended by fellow NSPCC volunteers and staff across the country in categories including schools volunteer of the year, frontline volunteer of the year and ChildLine volunteer of the year amongst others.
