A MAN has told of his frustration after a mystery driver is believed to have crashed a van into his garage wall leaving it in desperate need of rebuilding.

Now he is appealing for help to find whoever might be responsible.

Keith Iles, 70, of Sunnyside Avenue, received a call from a passer-by around two weeks ago to say that his garage, which is located about half a mile from his house, had a gaping hole in the side of it and looked about to collapse at any moment.

The garage, which mainly contains garden equipment, is situated down a side street behind Park Lane Doctor’s Practice and it is thought the incident occurred sometime between 3.30pm and 5.10pm on Wednesday, August 10.

Keith cannot be certain that it was caused by a van, but he thinks it is eh most likely cause.

He said: “It’s a bit of a mystery really. To have made such an impact on the garage and the steel girder next to it, I think it must have been a van of some description.

“The only reason people use that alleyway is to go to the doctor’s surgery. But whatever did this never got that far because we know that nothing with any damage went there at all.”

He said that the incident would have been captured on a CCTV camera belonging to a mini supermarket next door, but unfortunately it was on a four hour loop and the footage was erased.

According to Keith the police have been unable to help so far, but have recorded it as a traffic accident.

Keith, a retired engineer who lives with wife Janet, said: “It’s a good job nobody was in it at the time. It’s boarded up at the moment for safety, but without the supports the whole thing could come down at any moment.

“We will probably have to demolish it and rebuild it, but it’s going to cost quite a lot.

"It’s the annoyance of someone doing something like this and then driving off afterwards.”
