FLORISTS from the town’s three Morrisons stores are hoping to add a splash of colour to the town this week.

The green-fingered team members are busy preparing a number of colourful posies that they are planning to leave at various locations around town for people to pick up and take home.

After a spell of changeable summer holiday weather, the florists are hoping that the jolly posies will help brighten up Swindon’s Bank Holiday weekend when they appear in various places around the town from Thursday.

The posies are being placed in parks, bus stops and shopping areas for passers-by to pick up. They are made from multi-coloured Germini, which look like big, brightly coloured summer daisies.

Rich Bounds, manager of Morrisons' Dorcan Way store, said the idea behind the colourful 'flower bombing' was to bring some summer colour to the town after a damp couple of months.

He said: "Our florists know how changeable the weather has been this summer and wanted to cheer everyone up.

"We hope that people who find these brightly-coloured posies across Swindon will pick them up, take them home, and enjoy having their little splash of warming colour in their house.”

Abbie Paginton, Morrisons Dorcan Way’s community champion, has been busy planning where the posies will be placed.

She said: “The posies won’t be hidden, they will be in plain view for everyone to see and hopefully brighten up their day when they spot them.

"We will be focussing on Dorcan and Eldene as that is where the majority of our customers live, so keep your eyes peeled.”

The town's two other stores at Regent Circus and Haydon Wick are also expected to take part, each squirrelling the posies away in the nearby area for local residents to find.

Morrisons makes 22 million bouquets a year using nearly 250 million stems at its very own Flower World site, which spans 17.5 acres and employs over 260 fully-trained florists.
