THREE flats could be on the horizon for the vacant former Alabaré building in Duke Street, Trowbridge after plans were revealed this week.

The site used to be a hub in helping homeless people in the town access shelter, hot food, drinks and advice.

But now, applicant Simon Brake wants to turn the Grade II Listed building into three residential units after it has remained empty since Christmas.

The application , submitted to Wiltshire Council this week, states: “The proposal would bring back into use a derelict building within the area and continue to provide an element of commercial space which can contribute to the economic viability of the town centre.

“Contrary to any perception that this will have a negative commercial impact, this would positively contribute to the area as it is far more likely to be occupied.”

The property has remained empty since the loss of its previous use which reflects the difficult economic climate.”

Wiltshire Council has until October 13 to decide on the application unless it is called in to the planning committee.
