DOG lovers raised more than £660 in the space of four hours at a family fun day organised by Swindon Guide Dogs.

The event at the Tawny Owl on Saturday was the idea of new branch secretary Amanda Franks who said: “I just wanted to do something that was aimed at energising younger people and raising awareness for the charity locally.”

There were working and retired guide dogs, puppy walkers and even dogs that had failed to make the grade but had gone on to become pets.

Families, who were invited to take their own friendly dogs along, also enjoyed a treasure hunt around Moulden Hill during the afternoon, as well as a raffle, face painting and live music.

“It was amazing. It was very, very busy,” said Amanda, who shares her role with Jo Hamer.

“The Tawny Owl was brilliant in allowing dogs everywhere in the pub that day.”

“There was the opportunity to get hands on with dogs, but also the chance to bring the family dogs and children. People were there to enjoy themselves with their dogs.”

In fact it was such a success more events could be staged in the future.

“The response was so positive that I think we will definitely do other family fun days,” said Amanda.

The next fundraiser planned for the branch is a Great British Classics and Rock and Roll nights at the Crown in Stratton on October 5 from 7pm.
