THIEVES who cut out a window in a bid to break into the clubhouse at Devizes FC on Nursteed Road last night were foiled when the alarms went off, and fled without taking anything.

Now the club is working with police and examining CCTV footage in a bid to track down the burglars and is asking for the public's help to catch them.

"Fortunately the alarms went off, bt it was quite a professional job," said club chairman Sean Moffatt, who was at the club this morning making sure everything was in order ahead of tomorrow's crunch FA Vase game against Corsham.

"They cut the window right out very neatly - it's been easy for us as it has gone straight back in and is all secure now.

"They must have come in the back way, as they didn't trigger our motion-activated voice security warning at the front. That warns people the building has an alarm system.

"So it might be that they parked a car on the streets on that side of the club. If anyone say anything suspicious we'd be grateful if they would contact police."

Wiltshire police forensic officers were at the club this morning taking fingerprints, and the club's CCTV footage is being examined to determine the exact time of the attempted break-in, and if it has captured images of the thieves.

Anyone who thinks they might have witnessed the break-in, heard the alarms go off or seen anything which could help the investigation is urged to call the force on 101.
