A MELKSHAM pub has made it into Britain’s best-selling, independent good beer guide for the quality of its real ale - leading the national pub chain which owns it to delight at being singled out for the quality of its beer.

The Bear in Bath Road, which was bought by Wetherspoons in 2011 after Devizes brewery Wadworth closed it without warning, is listed in the 2017 Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide.

It was chosen on the recommendation of members of the town’s CAMRA branch following regular visits to check on the quality of its real ales.

Manager Catrin Ellaway said: “I am delighted that The Bear has been recognised for the quality of its real ales.

“We offer our customers an excellent range of real ales, including from regional brewers and microbrewers, and host our own beer festivals.

“Staff work hard to ensure that the real ales on offer are kept in first-class condition at all times and the pub’s inclusion highlights this.”
