AN anticipated 500 people will come together on Saturday in an effort to smash a world record for the biggest Swiss ball exercise class.

The charity event, put together by the Younite Foundation, is looking to raise more than £10,000 for local and international causes.

It is open to anyone over the age of 13 with a moderate level of fitness who can make it to the David Lloyd gym in North Swindon on Saturday afternoon.

A previous effort to break the same record in 2014 fell just short of the numbers required but still managed to raise an impressive £10,000 for charity in the process.

Organisers want to exceed that fundraising target this time.

The Younite Foundation was formed to provide charitable support to a variety of causes, both close to home and in countries across the world.

Through the provision of grants to existing charities, they hope to make a positive difference to the lives of children and young adults who are in need of additional support or assistance.

“We want everyone to enjoy themselves and raise lots of money, just like we did in 2014,” said Younite trustee Karen Thornley.

“But this time round we really want Swindon to embrace Team GB’s fantastic Olympic spirit and show everyone what we’re made of by setting a new world record.”

Fellow Younite trustee James Phipps added: “We have selected three amazing causes to support with this year’s event including Jessie May, a children’s hospice at home.”

Jessie May supports 22 children and one bereaved family in the Swindon area.

The other charities are BIOS – a Swindon-based youth work project, and Melon Mission, a family run project in Kenya supporting orphaned and destitute children.

Fiona Simpson of the Younite Foundation said: “We’ve got over 300 people signed up already, which is pretty amazing.

“The official world record stands at around 391 so anyone with a few spare hours on Saturday please get your friends together and get involved.

“We just need that final push to get us there – anyone can register online up until Friday night and then even on the day people can still turn up to join in.”
