CLIMATE Friendly Bradford on Avon held a community lunch in St Margaret’s Hall on Saturday which encouraged people to try and share local produce.

Held as part of the national ‘speak up on climate change week of action’, the lunch saw around 70 people attend including Bradford on Avon constituency MP Michelle Donelan who was able to hear views on climate change.

Quoins organic wine, Kettlesmith Brewing and JJ's apple juice showed off their produce while the Corsham Repair Cafe were on hand to offer advice and some small household repairs.

Rowena Quantrill, who helped organise the lunch said: “We’ve seen how climate change can affect us directly - Bradford on Avon was impassable because of flooding on Christmas Eve 2013 and my own house was flooded too. It isn't fun.

“At the lunch there were a lot of new faces and they were able to learn about local food and how supporting local produce it is cutting down food miles.

“We wanted to put on an event where people wanted to come to and enjoy and get involved in. We have a good culture of food in this area and we thought it was great to link that with raising awareness of the national speak up on climate change week of action.”

Children were entertained with a number of climate change themed activities while adults were able to swap their surplus produce for equally tasty food and drink from locals.

Miss Donelan said: “I always enjoy meeting with the members of Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon who do so much to champion the important issues of climate change and global warming. The lunch was a good opportunity to discuss these vital topics with a dedicated group of campaigners, meet with community energy projects and take part in the national week of action to speak up about the impact that climate change is having on our planet.”

Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon will be having a stall on November 5 in Lambs Yard where they will be shining a light on the benefits of LED lighting and thermal imaging.
