TEN years after Rowde celebrated the opening of its new primary school children were excited to look at the contents of a time capsule buried in 2006.

Former headteacher David Ball and ex pupil and county cricketer Tom Alsop were at the opening of the capsule on Monday.

Back when Tom was a ten-year-old pupil in Year 6 he wrote that one day he wanted to play for England and last month the 20-year-old was called up to England Lion’s training camp in Dubai.

Head Lorraine Colquhoun said: "It was amazing to see Tom’s letter, written when he was in year 6, which said that he wanted to play cricket for England, because he does. How wonderful that his dream became reality."

Both Tom and Mr Ball had helped create the time capsule which contained letters, toys, money and newspapers and current pupils and staff poured over the contents.

Now the school is considering what should be put into a new time capsule that will be buried for pupils in the future to open and ponder on what life was like for children in Rowde in 2016.

Ms Colquhoun said: "I wonder what children in 2026 will think of some of the things that we put into our new time capsule."
