SCORES of harvest gifts donated by children from a Calne school will help people struggling to feed their families.

More than 70 bags brimming with a wide variety of tinned and packet food were brought in to St Margaret’s Preparatory School and have now been donated to Devizes Foodbank.

The Harvest Festival Service on Friday in St Mary’s Chapel included the choir singing Look at the World and Parable of the Sower, while the whole school sang All Things Bright and Beautiful, Bread for the World and Now We Sing a Harvest Song.

Year 2 pupils Rose and Carina read harvest prayers, while Iris and Theo from Year 6 thoughtfully delivered the harvest readings.

Alan Beamish from Devizes Food Bank was delighted with the donations. He said: “We rely on support from our local community for donations of food to help stop hunger.”

Headmistress Karen Cordon was delighted with the generosity of parents and that her pupils could learn the lesson of helping others less fortunate. She said: “We are very pleased to continue our support of Devizes Foodbank.”
