ALZHEIMER’S Support is calling for people to help it win funding from the Aviva Community Fund to keep its activity groups running.

The Wiltshire charity runs singing groups, art groups, Alzheimer cafes and Movement for the Mind groups for people living with dementia and family carers, all designed to reduce isolation and help people lead active and meaningful lives.

Around 300 people attend these groups every month. Some are funded by Wiltshire Council but many are not and more funding is needed to expand the network.

Under the Aviva scheme, only projects with popular support have a chance of winning up to £25,000, so the charity is urging members of the public to vote for them online. To do this go to www.community-fund.aviva and search for Alzheimer’s Support.

Alzheimer’s Support chief executive Babs Harris said: “We will be so grateful to anyone who takes a few minutes to do this. All you have to register on the site and cast your votes. But for us, and for the people who come to our community activities, it is a very important gesture of support which will make a real difference to their quality of life.” Voting closes on November 18.
