A TEENAGER spared jail for robbing a man at knife point has had his curfew lifted so he can go to a seaside resort with his girlfriend to celebrate his coming of age.

The 17-year-old had been brought back before a judge after he failed to comply with the youth rehabilitation order imposed for the offence.

But after a one month restriction to keep him indoors between 7pm and 7am had been imposed his lawyer asked the court if it could be removed for a long weekend.

Alex Daymond, defending, told Swindon Crown Court that his client's family had paid for a hotel room in Bournemouth from Friday October 28 to Sunday October 30.

Allowing the request Judge Tim Mousley QC said "I will relax the electronically monitored curfew."

Minutes before he had told the boy: "If you do not comply with all of these orders then there really is only one likely outcome.

"Are you committed to completing this order?" to which the lad replied 'yes' saying 'stupidity' had led to him missing probation appointments.

Earlier Richard Williams, prosecuting, told the court the teenager had been put on the 12 month youth rehabilitation order with intensive supervision in May.

Although he started well, since late September he said he had missed five appointments and appeared to be 'not bothered' with the order.

Mr Williams said he had completed an earlier curfew with just one breach, and had done half of the 12 hours of attendance centre work imposed on him.

Mr Daymond said "This is what I would describe as a glitch in what started out as an order that went well."

His client had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, he said, and he thought he was going through a 'melt down' at the time he missed the appointments.

The judge imposed a new 12 month youth rehabilitation order with supervision, 120 hours of unpaid work, six hours at the attendance centre and the curfew.

An earlier hearing was told how the boy had been in custody for three months awaiting sentence fro the robbery committed with 18-year-old Sharisse Page.

The pair had been drinking when they threatened the 20-year-old victim, who they knew, during the attack in December last year.

They held a knife to him and demanded to know if he had sexually assaulted a female after learning he had been cleared by a jury after a trial.

Page, of Holbein Court, Grange Park, was initially put on a one year suspended sentence for her role in the attack.

But after she repeatedly failed to attend appointments she was brought back before a judge and the jail term was activated.
