A BUSINESS in Norton St Philip has come up with an invention so anyone can add a shed or decking timbers to their garden, no matter how uneven the surface, without having to lay an expensive concrete base.

Devised by Haven Timber managing director Matthew Bryant, and his team, Shedbed and Deckbed allows people to build a shed or deck at their home straight onto the base, which can be placed on nearly every type of ground.

James Lambert, 26, operations director of Haven Timber in Farleigh Road, said: “This product allows people to have their shed or deck with no groundwork required. Usually people would need to dig a foundation so the shed or deck would be able to sit evenly, but with Deckbed or Shedbed they can just build right on top. You can build a shed or deck on top of this on virtually any surface - except for water of course.”

The product, which can be made from timber or galvanised metal, provides a frame which sits on adjustable feet at its corners. These are set to make sure the shed is completely level, even if the garden itself is on a slope.

Haven Timber's invention has already sold between 30 and 40 units, with prices ranging from £200-£1,000 depending on size, making it a huge success for the Norton St Philip company.

“We set up a prototype in the car park and someone came up and wanted to buy it. This product doesn’t cost a lot of money, doesn’t affect the environment and can create a levelled base in minutes. The product is predominantly being sold through us and us alone,” added Mr Lambert.

Customers who have bought a Shedbed or Deckbed say it is a quicker and cheaper way of building one in your garden.

Quill Cantrall, 57, of Odd Down, Bath, said: “I wanted a shed in my garden but it is fairly uneven, not too much but enough to make a job out of it. I was going to put a concrete base in to even it out but it would’ve cost about £5,000 and it wasn’t an environmentally-friendly idea. I then thought about metal girders as a base, so I went to Haven Timber to buy some timber to make the shed and as they were taking me to the office I saw this and I said that it would be perfect.

“The base was less than ten per cent of the cost it would’ve done if I had put concrete down and dug around. We started building it all up at 10am and were finished by 7pm, and that included putting the shed up, it was 100 per cent level too. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who is looking to have a shed or deck in their garden.”
