DEVIZES MP Claire Perry visited a charity supported housing project as part of a Homes Not Streets Campaign,

Ms Perry was at The Orchard, in Devizes, to see the work of the charity Alabaré to speak to young people who benefit from having a roof over their heads.

She said: "It was a pleasure to meet the young people living at The Orchard and hear about the support and friendship available there which is so important to them at this stage in their lives.

"I am very pleased that the Government has listened, and has decided to delay any changes in the Shared Accommodation Housing Allowance for people living in the supported housing sector.

A consultation will now take place with housing organisations, vulnerable people and local authorities to ensure that a clear plan can be put in place that reflects the needs of each local area.”

Andrew Lord, chief executive of Alabaré said: “Claire Perry’s visit is of great importance to us. It reinforces the next phase of our campaign which will focus on how we protect vulnerable people in supported housing and ensure that this housing safety net is there for everyone for years to come.

"We are delighted that Claire is enthusiastic about talking to our staff and residents and willing to take an active role in this conversation about sustainable funding. We look forward to working together with Claire and other supportive MPs, to bring this most vital issue to the fore.”
