POLICE investigating a series burglaries in Royal Wootton Bassett have arrested a man.

Two schools and several homes have been broken into over recent weeks, including Longleaze Primary School, where a safe was smashed and £1,800 takings from its annual fair was snatched early on November 27.

Parents and a local firm later managed to raise £1,000 to ensure the pupils’ Christmas celebrations went ahead.

Noremarsh Junior School was also targeted on November 13 and there have been house burglaries in Longleaze, Horsell Close and Vale View.

Royal Wootton Bassett Police said a man was arrested on Saturday in connection with the investigation.

But they urged householders to remain vigilant, pay close attention to home security and report any suspicious activity.
